I have the same problems with W7 bit running in a VB on W7 bit host. It doesn’t make a huge difference but it would be cool to be able to use it properly. I know how hard it is to gather information about the Broadcom products in the latest Dell laptops. Dell Latitude, Vostro, and Precision. The fingerprint reader is only connected uush a USB port on this device which is restricted from the system.
I have just bought E with a fingerprint reader and am surprised that I can’t use it to anything but logging to windows. How to Fix Dell Broadcom USH Driver Problems
In my opinion, the way Dell has crippled the fingerprint reader is a scandal. Yeah, I felt kind of lame about this when I got my laptop. Use the Express Service Code when contacting Dell for assistance. It incorporates both the smart card reader which I care about and a so called “control vault” I do not even know what it is. But, there seems to be some extra paranoid security going on here where the “vault” needs to initialize, before userspace things can access the cardreader or fingerprint reader.
Also my GPU is heating up more than I like. Like a locked port on a USB hub. I have had the same problem with the Contactless Smartcard Reader. It is the USH that is blocking the fingerprint from Windows.

I’m going to try to install Vista to a real partition on my hard disk and installing the Dell drivers on that partition, then copying just the Broadcom driver over to the VirtualBox install. I’ve heared that you can access the reader though a specific Broadcom API though. I agree with Pirx, it is false reaver though I am sure there is small print somewhere and don’t believe in legal action.
